Kbal Spean (A River of thousand Lingas)
This is the river sanctuary, which means the head of bridge. The river of the thousand Lingas situated at about forty kilometers of Angkor, about 9km at the north of Banteay Srei, on the road to Anglong Veng just turn left, if you see the sign of Kbal Spean National Park. It was sculpted on about one hundred meters in 1054 under the reign of king Udayatidyavarman II. There are several carvings of Lingas in the sole of river and in the rocky beds. The sculptures of gods Vishnu is lying on Sesa with his spouse Laksmi and the god Brahma sits in the lotus flower, which grows from the navel of god Vishnu. Lord Shiva is riding on Nandin with his consort Uma. Vishnu is standing with crocodile in the upper part of rocky bed and his devotees. The sculpture large frog is near the cliff of waterfall and superb inscription detailed about this place. Jean Boulbert was a French researcher from EFEO, who discovered this place in 1968.
