How to reach in Siem Reap?
Siem Reap can be reached by road at every seasons, from Phnom Penh (National Road No. 6A) and the National Road No 5.A via Batambang 396km). It is also possible to reach the frontier by road Siem Reap to Boipet via Sisophon and proceed to Thailand. There is one domestic flight Siem Reap Airline or Bangkor Airline, that flies from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap. Travel by water way (251km) along Tonle Sap River and Tonle Sap Lake is very popular nowadays for most tourist. So nowadays too, one can arrive from everywhere in the world such as: Bangkok, Hanoi, Saigon, Singapore, Seoul, Tokyo, and Vientiane. Beside this, one can reach Siem Reap from Loa Border Voern Kam or Dong Kralor, Anlong Veng Chheam Sra Ngam, O Smarch....
What should be seen in Siem Reap?
Angkor is covering land area of 402 square kilometers with more than 120 historical temples and monuments. Angkor Wat is The World heritage that was listed by UNESCO in 1992. How to get in to Angkor?
Since 1998 after civil war in Cambodia, The Sokha Hotel Company has invested here that in charge to sell the temples fees to all kinds of foreign tourists. The Check point is located on the half way to Angkor Wat, at the Challes De Colle Avenue. One day ticket costs 20 US$, Three day ticket costs 40 US$ and One week costs 60 US$, all kinds of these tickets, one requires a small passport-photo, the small passport-photo you have to take free at the ticket booth on the Avenue to Angkor, but it excepts the children under 12 Years old, they do not require to pay, but they must show their passports at the Check Point. All kinds of tickets, one can visit all temples here in Angkor, Rolous, Banteay and Kbal Spean, excepts Phnom Kulen, Beng Mealea and Koh Ker. Check point is opened from 5:30 am to 5:30 pm.
How to get in Phnom Kulen, Beng Mealea and Koh Ker temples?
Phnom Kulen is the national park of Cambodia that located at the North of Angkor area, this is the long sandstonec mountain ranges in Siem Reap which called the sandstones and laterites stones quarries, according to its resources Phnom Kulen attracts a lot of tourists from day to day to visit there, but its entrance fee does not include with Angkor fee and it normally costs 20 US$ per person. Beng Mealea is recently a discovered temple in dense of jungles and large sandstones ruin which was established in the same period of Angkor Wat, the entrance for this place costs 5 US$ per person and Koh Ker is a complex which discovered from the jungles a few years ago, the entrance fee costs only 10 US$, but if you visit Koh Ker with Beng Mealea costs 15 US$.
What should be prohibited in Angkor?
At Angkor we have many ancient temples and they are the homes of gods in the two religions the Hinduism and Buddhism. All these are mirroring to the Khmer Culture and Civilization that created many thousand years ago. This way in our temple short dresses are prohibited, You all have to wear the long sleeve shirts or T-shirts over your shoulders and the trousers also trop under your knees as well. You can take on your hates because of the weather rather hot, but if you meet the Buddhist monks and the statues of Buddha, you have to take off your hates, too. The dogs are prohibited, means that you can not bring the dogs with you in to the temples. You can not climb the ruins or scratch the carvings at the temples, and you can take the photos the temples but you can not use any laser ray or business cameras (big video camera for business, such as movie...), if you want to take the pictures for business you must be allowed by APSARA Authority firstly.
What to ride? Elephants or Balloon? Helicopter flight?
The elephants are rare animals in Cambodia. Through the civil war around 30 years many elephants had been killed by landmines, bombing, shooting for food or other medicines and other fled to neighboring countries like Vietnam, Loa and Thailand..., After the civil war Angkor Village co. Ltd bought these them from hill tribes at Reatanakiri and Mundulkiri provinces and then launched them in Angkor and hire for tourists. The elephant-ride to top of Bakheng for sunset costs 20 US$ per person and from the Southgate of Angkor Thom to Bayon costs 15 Us$ person and riding around Bayon costs 15 Us$ per person.
The balloon is just launched around a few years ago, the world class balloon, which located just a kilometer at the west of Angkor Wat. In it, we can see the fascinated views of Angkor Wat, Bakheng, West Baray, Siemreap, Tonle Sap lake and the landscapes of near it, too. It costs 15 Us$ per person for adult, for children are under 12 years costs 7.5 Us$ per person.
